Situated at an altitude of 938 metres in the heart of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, Ostello Montano dei Briganti is located in Padula (Cortino).
Description of the operation:
The investment project presented addresses the need to capitalise on the emerging trend of experiential tourism, which has become a cornerstone of the travel industry, with an increasing number of travellers choosing destinations and accommodation that embrace green practices in tourism, prioritising the environment and the conservation of natural resources. The project aimed to enhance the quality of accommodation at the Youth Hostel located in the village of Padula – a facility owned by the municipality of Cortino and managed by the applicant, Casati Paola – with a particular focus on visitors who appreciate nature and the quality of life in small villages. Through the implementation of the investment project, structural and operational improvements were carried out to enhance and upgrade the accommodation service, making the facility more functional and comfortable and ensuring guests enjoy a healthy, high-quality stay. The investment has had a positive impact both on the business’s development – through the improvement of existing services and the creation of new, advanced services accessible to all – and on the local area, helping to spread tourist flows more evenly throughout the year and raising the profile of the village of Padula as a high-quality destination for active and sustainable tourism.

Stay in the Borgo Montano di Padula at 938 metres in the heart of the Laga Mountains
In the deepest and wildest heart of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, there is a place where the road seems to surrender to nature and time stops to listen to the silence. At an altitude of 938 metres, the Ostello Montano dei Briganti welcomes travellers to the tiny village of Padula (Cortino). This gem of 17th century sandstone houses is a place where life still flows according to the slow rhythms of the mountains. Here the landscape is marked by streams with pools of water ideal for a refreshing dip, spectacular waterfalls and a riverfront with a large picnic area, playground and football pitch.The architectural treasure of the village is the Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Monti della Laga. In Padula, you will find neither shops nor groceries, but you will discover an authentic peace: a village where children still play freely in the streets and squares, while the elderly stroll surrounded by nature.
Monti Della Laga Park
Il Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga (istituito nel 1992) è una vastissima riserva ricca di biodiversità. Il territorio è diviso in due: a sud le pareti calcaree del Gran Sasso e a nord i rilievi arenacei della Laga. Qui, l’impermeabilità della roccia dà vita a un paesaggio spettacolare fatto di ruscelli e cascate.
The Hostel
L’Ostello si sviluppa su tre piani e ha una capacità massima di 20 posti letto, a cui si aggiunge un posto riservato per diversamente abili.
Al piano terra si trova una camera accessibile, dotata di bagno privato interno. Ai due piani superiori sono distribuite le restanti 6 camere da letto (3 per piano), anch’esse tutte dotate di bagno privato completo di doccia. Quattro di queste camere sono provviste di due letti a castello, mentre due camere dispongono di un solo letto a castello; inoltre, quattro stanze sono arricchite da un piccolo terrazzo.
Per garantire il massimo comfort, tutti i letti sono forniti di lenzuola, coperte e piumini, e ogni bagno è provvisto di sapone e carta igienica.

Fin da giovanissima ho vissuto la montagna in ogni sua forma, fino a realizzare il sogno di abitare in questo piccolo borgo montano, di cui conosco profondamente boschi e vette.
Sono Guida AIGAE, volontaria CAI e Hospitalera sui cammini; per me, accogliere un ospite significa accogliere un amico in uno spirito di fratellanza.
Vivo con felicità di questo lavoro e, dal 2026, sono ufficialmente certificata come operatore della “Carta Europea del Turismo Sostenibile del Parco Nazionale del Gran Sasso e Monti della Laga 2026-2031”, un impegno concreto per la tutela e la valorizzazione del nostro territorio.
